NC MedAssist Mobile Free Pharmacy Program Intern 

Position Summary:

The Mobile Free Pharmacy Intern will serve as an assistant to the Mobile Free Pharmacy (MFP) Events and Logistics Manager in an effort to efficiently execute OTC medicine give-away events.  NC MedAssist’s Mobile Free Pharmacy program provides free OTCs to the residents of North Carolina that are in need.  This is an unpaid position.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist with MFP Event reporting
  2. Work with OTC program manager to communicate with various agencies to promote awareness of the OTC program and events
  3. Assist with packing and prepping for OTC events
  4. Must be actively involved in the organization and implementation of project assignments and OTC events
  5. Attend OTC events as needed (some travel may be needed, but not required)
  6. Research and compile community stakeholder contacts across the state of NC
  7. Organize, inventory, and order supplies
  8. Other duties as assigned by the OTC Program manager

Qualification:

  • Ability to work in a team environment, exhibit strong leadership skills, networking and be a positive agency representative
  • Must be professional at all times
  • Must possess strong skills in organization, communication, writing, computers, and public speaking
  • Ability to organize projects, coordinate program events/functions, and develops community contacts
  • Must be able to work 10-15 hours a week (negotiable)
  • Must be able to lift up to 20lbs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

NC MedAssist Accounting Intern 

Job Overview

NC MedAssist is currently seeking an intern to help with, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records under the supervision of our Accounting and Office Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on, practical accounting experience and learn about the various aspects of the accounting function at a local nonprofit organization.  This is an unpaid position.

Performance Requirements:

Under the supervision of the Accounting and Office Manager, the intern will have the following responsibilities and tasks.

  • Assist with month-end financial reports
  • Assist with month-end Pharmacy Statistics reports
  • Assist in the quarterly QuickBooks & Raisers Edge record reconciliation
  • Help with accounts receivable, accounts payable and closing activities
  • Assist with document preparation for a year-end audit
  • Help with the monthly tracking of over-the-counter medicine inventory
  • Assist with data entry and filing
  • Help with Credit Card receipt gathering & reconciliation
  • Other duties as assigned by the Accounting and Office Manager

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of education in the Business or Accounting field
  • Aptitude for math, proficiency with computers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility
  • Motivation and a strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize under deadlines

NC MedAssist Pharmacy Intern 

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for many pharmacy workflow tasks, including but not limited to data entry of prescriptions, counting and filling prescriptions, packaging and printing postage for completed prescriptions, and various inventory functions.  He/she assists patients in-person and via telephone with typical, non-clinical questions, and assists pharmacists wherever possible to ensure accurate and efficient dispensing of prescriptions.  This is an unpaid position.

Performance Requirements:

  1. Focus on the mission of NC MedAssist.
  2. Ability to function independently, but to recognize when consultation is necessary.
  3. Ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently.
  4. Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Adhere to all rules and regulations of the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
  6. Ability to stand statically for long periods of time.
  7. Ability to lift up to 20 lb. boxes and totes as necessary.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Reconcile daily McKesson order against invoice and provide an invoice to Office Manager.
  2. Print daily drug log for the previous working day, and PAP reports as necessary for ordering.
  3. Service patient window and/or telephone with excellent customer service skills via a positive service demeanor to determine the needs of the client.
  4. Screen incoming prescriptions and refill requests to ensure active certification and appropriate patient information (patient name, date of birth, allergies, etc.) is recorded and legible.
  5. Fills prescriptions, as defined by statute, for patients under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist:
    1. Enter prescription information into the pharmacy software system promptly and accurately.
    2. Obtain the appropriate drug product.
    3. Count the proper number of dosage units to be dispensed.
    4. Label drug product properly including any auxiliary warning labels.
    5. Has pharmacist review and dispense completed prescription.
    6. For in-person encounters, provides the offer to counsel all patients picking up medications.
    7. Packages and provides postage as necessary for mailing purposes.
  6. Assists in inventory management (pharmaceuticals and supplies). Alerts pharmacy staff members of drug shortages or other potential problems ( i.e. expired medications, back ordered products, etc.)
  7. Maintain a working knowledge of the pharmacy software system, including the ability to enter new patient registrations, fill prescriptions (new and refills), and fill a prescription utilizing barcode accuracy scan.
  8. Maintain a working knowledge of NC MedAssist formulary and eligibility requirements.
  9. Follow the chain of command when the pharmacy manager is not available.

Supervision:

  • The Pharmacy Intern will be directly supervised by the Director of Pharmacy Operations.

 Job Requirements:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or GED
  2. Must be registered (in good standing), or willing to become registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy
  3. National technician certification (Cpht) is preferred, but not required
  4. Must have at least 1 year of previous pharmacy experience
  5. Must have excellent verbal communication skills
  6. Must be willing to participate as part of a team to establish relationships that foster optimal quality of patient care.

NC MedAssist Social Work Intern

Position Description:

To assist North Carolina residents with obtaining life-saving prescription medications and Over-The-Counter medicines from NC MedAssist. Interns will help assure that patients have the best prescription medication resources and educational information available to them so that they are better able to manage their chronic diseases.  This is an unpaid position.

Intern Job Responsibilities:

  • Rotate throughout departments and provide ideas to grow and improve internal processes.
