Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is partnering with NC MedAssist to support statewide programs that improve access to prescription and over-the-counter medications, health resources and essential care for North Carolinians.
Blue Cross NC’s $240,000 investment reflects a commitment to advancing access to care in communities throughout North Carolina, one of the most expensive states in the nation for health care. The sponsorship supports multiple areas of NC MedAssist’s work, including the organization’s Free Pharmacy Program, Mobile Free Pharmacy Program and community outreach efforts.
The organizations will hold a community event with NC MedAssist’s Mobile Free Pharmacy on July 24th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Christ Community Church in Wilmington. Additional events are planned across the state throughout the year.
“Health care is too expensive for too many North Carolinians, and prescription costs are a major part of that pressure,” said Arif Khan, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Strategy and Performance Execution at Blue Cross NC. “Partnerships with organizations like NC MedAssist help connect people with needed medications and resources today, while supporting our broader work to make health care more affordable, easier to navigate and more accessible across North Carolina.”
As North Carolina’s only statewide nonprofit pharmacy, NC MedAssist provides free prescription medications and over-the-counter medicines to eligible individuals across the state. The organization also hosts events that connect communities with free OTC medications, health education resources, and wellness support.
“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving health outcomes and reducing barriers to care for individuals and families across North Carolina,” said Brenda Vass, Chief Executive Officer of NC MedAssist. “We’re grateful for Blue Cross NC’s investment in our mission and their support of programs that help people access the medications and resources they need to live healthier lives.”
Blue Cross NC employees also recently worked alongside NC MedAssist to improve the organization’s operations and efficiency. The 6-week project was part of the company’s Blue Corps program, where employees volunteer with non-profit partners, applying their professional expertise to address large-scale organizational challenges.
