Throughout the 2024–2025 fiscal year, NC MedAssist expanded access to life-saving medications while responding to urgent health needs across North Carolina.
Through the Free Pharmacy Program, NC MedAssist served 12,737 uninsured North Carolinians, dispensing 96,640 prescriptions valued at more than $39.2 million. These medications helped patients manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and behavioral health disorders—preventing an estimated $34.4 million in healthcare costs by reducing emergency room visits and hospitalizations.
Access extended far beyond the pharmacy walls. Through Mobile Free Pharmacy events across the state and the OTC Free Store in Charlotte, NC MedAssist distributed millions of dollars in over-the-counter medicine, vitamins, and health supplies—bringing essential care directly to 42,776 individuals and families.
When Hurricane Helene devastated communities across Western North Carolina, NC MedAssist responded quickly by launching Project Dispensing Hope: WNC. Working with community partners across 28 counties, the initiative helped 35,970 individuals and families maintain access to critical medications and health supplies during recovery, distributing more than 140,000 OTC items valued at nearly $2 million, along with essential prescription medications.
From expanding pharmacy access to responding in times of crisis, these combined efforts helped ensure more North Carolinians could focus on rebuilding their health and their lives—without having to choose between basic necessities and the medicine they need to stay well.
