Bettie Clay was laid off from her job in April of 2006. About a year after Bettie was laid off she was diagnosed with COPD and high blood pressure, that require seven different medications. Because of the severity of her illness she was unable to work. Her inability to work forced her to go on disability, making it even more difficult to make ends meet. Since she was now unemployed and left without insurance, she was forced to choose between buying food or the medicine she needed to survive. Her physician at Mecklenburg Medical Group in Uptown Charlotte recommended MedAssist to her, and now receives the help she needs to obtain her medications. “I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten my medications if it weren’t for MedAssist” she says, “It’s just what the doctor ordered!”
