FREE OTC Medicine Give Away and Blood Pressure Screenings for Anyone in Need NC MedAssist and Care Ring Collaborate to Bring Health Care Resources to Our Neighbors in Need

 

What: FREE Over the Counter Medicine Give Away and Blood Pressure Screenings

When: Friday, April 10th, 2015 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Where: Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216

 

Event Summary:

NC MedAssist is hosting a FREE Over the Counter (OTC) Medicine Give Away Day at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church on Friday. All are welcome but must attest to having a financial need.

Participants will have the chance to select OTC medications based on their health needs. Each participant will receive over $80 worth of OTC medications that include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Allergy Relief
  • Children’s Medications
  • Aspirin, Tylenol, Aleve
  • Vitamins
  • First Aid

NC MedAssist’s goal is to help alleviate the strain on the health care system by providing medications to those who normally use the emergency room for reasons such as fever, minor pain relief and treating cold and flu symptoms.

To continue striving towards a healthier community, MedAssist is collaborating with Care Ring, a nonprofit dedicated to providing preventative health services, for the April 10th Give Away Day. Care Ring representatives will be on hand to administer blood pressure screenings and to answer any important health related questions from participants.

Fast Facts:

  • All OTC medicine is free and donated by Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
  • Volunteers at MedAssist sort and distribute the medicine to families in and around the Greater Mecklenburg area.
  • Since its inception, MedAssist has distributed over $1.2 million in donated OTC medicine.
  • Approximately 4,000 individuals have participated in an OTC Giveaway Day, receiving free medicine that they can’t otherwise afford.

Help Needed: Both volunteer groups and individuals are needed to help sort medicine on delivery days and distribute medicine during monthly giveaways days. Interested individuals and large groups from local businesses, churches, sororities, and fraternities are encouraged to contact Tonia Harris at 704.350.3574 or tharris@medassist.org.

Event Summary:              

NC MedAssist, a nonprofit pharmacy program that provides free prescription medicines to low-income/uninsured North Carolinians across the state, will partner with Frank-Vance-Warren Opportunity, Inc. to host a FREE over the counter (OTC) medicine Give Away Day on Thursday, March 19th for any individual or family willing to attest to having a financial need.

This Henderson OTC Give Away is made possible by the generous support of Triangle North Healthcare Foundation. NC MedAssist is expecting over 400 individuals to attend the Give Away Day, which is the first of its kind held in the Henderson area.

Each individual will receive over $80 worth of product:

Give Away medicine will include an array of options for both children and adults. These medicines include but are not limited to allergy relief, pain relief, indigestion relief, cold and flu medicine, first-aid, and vitamins.

NC MedAssist Celebrates Heart Month with Free Over-the-Counter Medicine Give Away Day

Event Summary:

Each month, NC MedAssist distributes FREE over-the-counter (OTC) medications to those who attest to a financial need.

NC MedAssist’s goal is to help alleviate the strain on the health care system by providing medications to those who normally use the emergency room for reasons such as fever, minor pain relief and treating cold and flu symptoms.

Providing access to preventative medication is a part of MedAssist’s community outreach. During the February 13th OTC giveaway, several preventative medications that help combat illnesses such as heart disease will be available for FREE; which include:

  • Coenzyme Q-10
  • Multi-Vitamins (Children and Adult)
  • Fish Oil
  • Garlic

“By providing access to preventative medications, our community will stay healthier longer. A healthier community means a decrease in the frequency of emergency room visits for common ailments. Our goal is provide the right medications to the uninsured through our Free Pharmacy Program and to also educate the community on ways to prevent illness and live a healthier lifestyle.” – Dustin Allen, Pharmacy Manager, NC MedAssist.

Participants will have the chance to select over-the-counter medications based on their health needs. Other giveaway items include pain relief such as Tylenol and Aleve, children’s medications, digestive medications, and first aid supplies such as band-aids and sunscreen.
